Acclimating Berghai Nudibranchs to Your Tank

So you just ordered some Berghais to help knock out your aiptasia problem? When you first get your box, carefully unscrew the top over a container. The saltwater is filled to the top to keep the Berghais from having too rough a transit! Dump off a little of the excess water into your container. We recommend doing these steps over a container in case a Berghai were to fall out when pouring it be attached to the lid of the cup! Let the cup breath until you are ready to acclimate close to lights out time.

its best to add them at night after the fish have had a good dinner when lights are off (you will also turn off the flow) and the fish are in their sleeping spots. Berghais are nocturnal creatures and hunt at night while fish and predators are sleeping. This will give them the best chance to get settled into their new environment.

We recommend acclimating the Berghais to temperature and salinity of your system for 30 minutes. Once acclimated place the Berghais in the cup they were shipped in into the tank (with lights and flow off) on the rock work. Leave the cup in the tank and allow them to crawl out. If they try to stay put, gently use a turkey baister to blow them out of the cup and gently get them onto the rocks. Once they are out of the cup you can turn the flow back on, but leave lights off for the night.

The Berghais will begin breeding immediately and will likely come with eggs in their bellies ready to lay them in your tank! In my experience they tend to want to boost their numbers before they begin large scale removal of aiptasia in your system.
